The English Department is proud to welcome two-time World Fantasy Award-winning author Jeff VanderMeer for an evening of reading and conversation on Tuesday, November 10th at 5 pm in UH 043. The event is free and open to the public.
Widely regarded as one of the world’s best fantasists, Jeff VanderMeer grew up in the Fiji Islands. He is a two-time World Fantasy Award winner, and the recipient of an NEA-funded Florida Individual Artist Fellowship for excellence in fiction, as well as a Florida Artist Enhancement Grant. VanderMeer’s book-length fiction has been translated into 15 languages, while his short fiction has appeared in several year’s best anthologies and been short-listed for Best American Short Stories. His books, including City of Saints and Madmen, Finch, The Thackeray T. Lambshead Pocket Guide to Eccentric and Discredited Diseases, and Booklife: Strategies and Survival Tips for the 21 st Century Writer, have made the year’s best lists of Publishers Weekly, The San Francisco Chronicle, The Los Angeles Weekly, and numerous other publications. "The Book of Bunk: A Fairy Tale of the Federal Writers' Project"
Reading, Wednesday, Oct. 7: Alexandria LaFaye
Award-winning children's writer Alexandria LaFaye (and former English Department faculty member) will read and sign books on October 7 in the library of California State University, San Bernardino. The reading, which is free to the public, will begin at 4:30 in room 4005 of the Pfau Library. Copies of the author's books will be available for sale.
